The Horcrux Protocol: A Method for Decentralized Biometric-based Self-sovereign Identity
Most user authentication methods and identity proving systems rely on a
centralized database. Such information storage presents a single point of
compromise from a security perspective. If this system is compromised it poses
a direct threat to users' digital identities. This paper proposes a
decentralized authentication method, called the Horcrux protocol, in which
there is no such single point of compromise. The protocol relies on
decentralized identifiers (DIDs) under development by the W3C Verifiable Claims
Community Group and the concept of self-sovereign identity. To accomplish this,
we propose specification and implementation of a decentralized biometric
credential storage option via blockchains using DIDs and DID documents within
the IEEE 2410-2017 Biometric Open Protocol Standard (BOPS)
Academic Predictors of Mental Health Outcomes for Children and Youth with Emotional Disturbance
Research suggests a strong correlation linking academic achievement and mental health outcomes in children with emotional disturbance (ED) (Kauffman, 2005 U.S. Department of Education, 2006). However, the exact nature of this critical relationship remains unclear. This study used a series if regression analyses and Z-Tests to investigate the predictive relationship of measures of academic achievement in determining social-emotional function over time. Examined was a sample of 261 students receiving special education and mental health services at a treatment center. Academic, mental health and demographic information was gathered from a preexisting archive. Students were assessed annually using the KTEA-II in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. Assessment of students\u27 day-to-day social-emotional functioning was measured using the Ohio Scales. Results indicated that, after a year\u27s time, the predictive value of writing achievement in determining social-emotional functioning was statistically significant and the relationship strengthened with time. Implications of the study are explore

A Study of the Irradiance-and-Temperature-Dependence of Mid-Wave-Infrared (MWIR)Absorption in Indium Antimonide (InSb)
This work entails further investigation of the absorption of photons in indium antimonide (InSb). Previously work at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) attributed laser blooming effects in InSb focal plane arrays (FPA’s) to the Burstein-Moss effect. The contributing effect is from a decrease in the absorption of the InSb material, such that the transmitted optical energy scatters off the integrated circuitry beneath the InSb thin film back into the optical system. To evaluate this, irradiance-dependent laser-absorption experiments were performed on thinned, InSb wafers prior to their FPA fabrication. The samples were illuminated with a focused CO2 laser at 4.6 μm, and translated along the optical axis to vary the irradiance. A control process to remotely manage the experiment’s apparatuses during data collection has been developed utilizing LabView 8.5. The transmission of the InSb sample was measured at different laser powers and temperatures. As the temperature decreases for a determined laser irradiance, it has been observed that the absorption decreases nonlinearly. A model of the absorption-saturation phenomena is also developed so that agreement between the measured and modeled results can be studied for the carrier lifetime and density of carriers
